May-Britt Joyce’s art arises directly from her relationship with her subject. She focuses on a personally meaningful scene, a flower garden, or a beloved animal, and then proceeds to work on the image using acrylics as her medium and often translates her finished art into note cards.
Her subjects are drawn from impressions of her environment either near her home in Cooperstown, NY, her heritage in Sweden, or travel to other parts of the world. She frequently paints portraits of beloved pets for the benefit of the Susquehanna SPCA.
May-Britt has always had a creative mind, as far back as making unique book report covers in grade school with more gusto than writing the report itself. She did not begin seriously painting until much later in life. She learned techniques of pencil and charcoal then oil from area artists Amy Cannon and Mary Nolan before settling on acrylics as her medium of choice.
